Initial Thoughts on Deployment
In January of this year, I received the word that my request to transfer to a unit deploying to Bosnia had been excepted. I was excited and anxious! What would the new unit be like? Would I fit in? Could I perform my job to the units standards? These were just some of my concerns as my military career headed off in an entirely new direction.
I had come from co. C 1/175 Inf., a line company. My new unit was a cav scout unit. Now not only did I have to learn how to operate in a peace keeping mission, I had to learn an entirely new MOS. And to top off all the stress, I was to find out my wife was two months pregnant.
As time progressed, and I really got into the swing of things (with the help of some excellent guidance from my fellow NCOs). It is now 12 days before my deployment date, my newborn daughter is 5 days old and it seems like a life time has past since that day in January when I got the news that I was headed for a real world mission in Bosnia, but my resolution still stands firm. If I can go to Bosnia and touch the life of just one person. If I can go there and make the world a better place for just one other child, then I can say that I've made a difference. I can at least I've done something to better this world.
